Lead Software Engineer, TimescaleDB Enterprise

Engineering

At Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, we empower developers and businesses with the fastest PostgreSQL platform designed for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Trusted globally by thousands of organizations, Tiger accelerates real-time insights, drives intelligent applications, and powers critical infrastructure at scale. As a globally distributed, remote-first team committed to direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence, we're shaping the future of data infrastructure, built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity.

Now we’re extending that mission deeper into the enterprise.

As a Lead Software Engineer for TimescaleDB Enterprise, you’ll help build and shape our on-prem enterprise platform: a solution that enables customers to deploy, manage, secure, and operate TimescaleDB in their own environments.

This is a high-ownership builder role for someone who wants to shape both the product and the technical direction of a rapidly evolving enterprise offering. You’ll work across the full stack of the experience — from operational tooling and deployment systems to customer workflows and product capabilities — helping us turn complex enterprise requirements into pragmatic, scalable solutions.

You’ll partner directly with enterprise customers, prospects, and internal stakeholders to deeply understand operational pain points and build software that solves real-world infrastructure challenges.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong engineering instincts with product thinking, customer empathy, and the ability to navigate ambiguity confidently.

📍 This role is remote. There is no strict timezone requirement, though overlap with North America and Europe is strongly preferred.

What you will be responsible for in this role

  • Leading the design and development of TimescaleDB Enterprise, our on-prem deployment and management platform for TimescaleDB.

  • Building and evolving core product capabilities, including:

    • management consoles,

    • deployment workflows,

    • operational tooling,

    • configuration management,

    • and customer administration experiences.

  • Owning technical decisions across the product lifecycle, balancing speed, scalability, maintainability, and customer experience.

  • Working directly with enterprise customers and prospects to understand operational requirements and translate them into pragmatic product solutions.

  • Driving new feature development while continuously improving reliability, usability, and operational simplicity.

  • Partnering closely with Platform Engineering and cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Support, and Sales Engineering.

  • Helping shape the long-term product and technical direction of the Enterprise platform.

  • Operating effectively in ambiguous environments where priorities evolve quickly and engineers are expected to drive clarity.

  • Leveraging AI tools daily to accelerate development, debugging, documentation, and product iteration workflows.

You could be a great fit if you…

  • You are deeply entrepreneurial and naturally gravitate toward ownership instead of waiting for direction.

  • You’re energized by ambiguity and enjoy figuring things out when there is no obvious playbook.

  • You think holistically about products, not just code. You care about customer workflows, operational realities, usability, maintainability, and long-term product evolution.

  • You have strong product intuition and can translate vague customer pain points into pragmatic, high-impact solutions.

  • You are comfortable making thoughtful decisions with incomplete information and understand how to balance speed with technical quality.

  • You care deeply about customer experience and enjoy partnering directly with technical users to understand how products succeed or fail in real environments.

  • You enjoy building foundational products from an early stage and improving them rapidly through iteration and customer feedback.

  • You thrive in environments where engineers are expected to contribute beyond implementation, including architecture, product direction, prioritization, operational thinking, and customer conversations.

  • You use AI tools regularly in your daily workflow to accelerate development, problem-solving, debugging, and product iteration.

  • You communicate clearly, operate with high autonomy, and help create momentum for the people around you.

  • You care more about solving meaningful customer problems than defending technical purity.

Technical experience that will help you succeed

  • Experience building developer platforms, enterprise software, infrastructure products, operational tooling, or database-adjacent systems.

  • Comfort working across multiple layers of a system, from backend services to operational workflows and user-facing tooling.

  • Strong familiarity and proficiency with AI coding tools.

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, distributed systems, deployment automation, or enterprise operational environments is highly valuable.

  • Experience working directly with enterprise customers or highly technical users is a strong plus.

You might not be a great fit if…

  • You prefer highly scoped work with fixed requirements and little ambiguity.

  • You only want to focus on implementation and avoid broader product ownership.

  • You’re uncomfortable interacting directly with customers or translating customer feedback into engineering decisions.

  • You prefer optimizing mature systems over building new foundations and evolving products rapidly.

  • You avoid making decisions without perfect information.

  • You want a role where strategy and execution are fully separated.

  • You are uncomfortable operating in fast-moving startup environments where priorities evolve quickly.

Our Commitment:

  • We respond to every applicant.

  • We review applications fairly and objectively, and shortlist based on relevant skills and experience.

  • We ensure clear and timely communication throughout your candidate journey.

  • We maintain a rigorous interview process with a high bar, designed to give you the opportunity to meet various team members you'll collaborate with across our organization.
